Case Description

The vertical shaft single-rope hoisting system is one of the most widely used main hoisting methods in small, medium-sized, and medium-depth mines worldwide. Depending on the type of conveyance, this system is divided into two configurations: cage hoisting and skip hoisting.

I. Vertical Shaft Cage Hoisting System

The cage hoisting system is primarily installed in the auxiliary shaft, handling waste rock hoisting, personnel and equipment transport, and material delivery. In some small coal mines, it is also used for coal hoisting in the main shaft. The cage is a rectangular steel-framed conveyance capable of carrying mine cars, equipment, or personnel.

The system operates on a balanced hoisting principle: while one cage is being loaded at the shaft bottom, the other is being unloaded at the surface. The two cages move in opposite directions up and down the shaft.

Cage hoisting serves both main and auxiliary hoisting functions, eliminating the need for separate auxiliary hoisting equipment. However, the dead weight of the cages and mine cars is relatively high, resulting in lower hoisting efficiency.

Primary applications include personnel transport, material and equipment delivery, waste rock hoisting in auxiliary shafts, and coal hoisting in some small to medium-sized main shafts.

II. Vertical Shaft Skip Hoisting System

The skip hoisting system is dedicated to high-capacity continuous coal hoisting in coal mine main shafts. Skip hoisting is strictly prohibited for personnel transport. The skip is a conveyance specifically designed for bulk materials, with bottom-dump structures being the most common type used in coal mine shafts.

The system operates on a dual-skip cycle: while one skip is loaded at the shaft bottom and hoisted to the surface for unloading, the other skip simultaneously descends from the surface to the loading point. This system can be integrated with automated controls for 24-hour continuous operation.

Skips are limited to transporting loose bulk coal. Waste rock is handled through the auxiliary shaft cage system. Skips are strictly prohibited from carrying personnel or large equipment.

Primary applications include high-capacity coal transport in main shafts, as well as ore hoisting in some metal mines.
